With this, we presuppose that nervous substance -- being the one partner of the extreme type of differentiation : nerve fiber / muscle fiber -- is taken to be that what it in fact is, namely a specially characterized form of living matter, but still without being at the same time matter that lives in a fundamentally higher degree than does any other tissue.
