Note 871

We even want to assure that in organismic macro-molecules [the living molecules] also forces of cohesion (cohesion here derived and taken over from inorganic system conditions) are taken to be involved in partial bonding, that is, being expoited [by the living molecule], namely in a way that the functional cohesion doesn't correspond to a statistically varying average value, but is fixed and unchangeable or little changeable as a result of a corresponding molecular structure. But these are merely aids completing construction -- which one nevertheless can consider -- offering certain mobilities, which [aids], however, cannot totally replace the true bond.
