Note 328a

With this, one already has encountered difficulties earlier. As a result of chemical protein-hydratation (20-50 grams of water for every 100 grams of protein), which [hydratation] is assumed in a lesser degree [to be a water-binding] onto peptide-bonds [of the protein molecule] than to be a bond with the ionic groups [of the protein molecule], one is forced to distinguish between the weight of particles and "true" (?) molecular weight. So what doesn't, as one asserts, make sense in organismic [= living] mega-molecules, is already a problem in the dead stage of legitimately defined molecules, a problem which must be considered.
