A function may have a "dynamic" (1) and "static" (2) nature. In organisms one is expected to find (1) and (2), most often (more prominent) (1). In inorganic things only (2) is observable, but looking at things from the viewpoint of natural philosophy, perhaps also weak indications of (1) may be detected.
