Note 187

The fine-configuration of living substance undoubtedly does not possess that what one takes to be physically as  highly  ordered. Of course it doesn't make sense to speak of little-ordered or  highly  disordered (chaotic). If one is looking for an image, then we recommend our image of defects, which so persistenly and definitely invade any given order that it as such has perished, without perhaps being able to say that the effect of defects is itself a defined element of order.
