The higher genus (i.e. the genus above Scytalia) is ' sponge '. But because we here were forced [as a result of the assumed incompleteness of the fossil] to limit ourselves to just [identifying it as] " Scytalia spec.", that is, not discriminating between distinct species of this genus, an incomplete definition ( with respect to the species that was actually [but for us unknown] represented by the fossil ) is even inescapable.
