If we give up the exceptional ontological status of Quality within Ockham's philosophy, then we get (just as was the case with Quantity) the following state of affairs :  The term 'white' is, as concrete term, connotative :  It signifies primarily one or another Substance [a carrier], and secondarily the truth of a certain proposition  ( In this proposition it is asserted that the attribution of the term 'white' is legitimate [for example based on an observation] ).  The abstract term 'whiteness' can, just as in the case of Quantity, be reduced to the corresponding concrete term :  whiteness is white qua white.
