While a concrete term signifying an accident is connotative ( 'white' refers to a thing, and connotes whiteness), the thesis man is humanity indicates that in the case of a substance there is not some formal content that is a proper part of that substance, and because it is a substance (carrier-only) there is also not some content (accident) added to it. Therefore the concrete term referring to a substance does not connote something.
