From Xn = Bn follows that X0 = B0 = 1.
So this can figure as initial state of the system. Of course this "1" does not mean that the population started out with one individual. The "1" is just a point on some scale which (scale) indicates the absolute number of individuals. The values of Bn indicate how many times the initial value they have become.
