A glide plane is a symmetry element, i.e. an operation which lets the structure coincide with itself. In this case it is a reflection in a plane, followed by a translation along a line in that plane.
A screw axis is a rotation followed by a translation along the axis of rotation. Both symmetries (glide plane and screw axis) are not visible macroscopically).
